Our History
In 2008, Ben Gerig, Chris DeStefano, Marshall Burchard, Greg Walter and David Gertner formed Hillspoint Partners LLC to provide advisory services for the structuring and sale of non-performing loans and to manage the liquidation of a distressed investment fund’s vehicles. Prior to forming Hillspoint, Ben, Marshall and Greg worked together at GE Capital and were key members of the leadership team that executed on the acquisition and management of over $3.8 billion of investments in distressed real estate and commercial loan portfolios globally.
In 2009, Hillspoint began working with Northlight Financial LLC, a New York-based alternative investment firm, to fund investments sourced by the Hillspoint team.
Building on these investments, the Hillspoint principals and Northlight Financial formed Northlight Capital Partners LLC (“NCP”) to act as the Advisor for Northlight Trust I (“NTI”), a single-client, separately managed account that invested in bankruptcy-related assets and invesments.
In 2014, NCP launched Northlight Real Estate Opportunity Fund I LP (“NREOFI”), a blind-pool, commingled fund that invested in loan and REO acquisitions, as well as distressed special situation investments.
In 2017, NCP launched Northlight Real Estate Opportunity Fund II LP (“NREOFII”), a blind-pool, commingled fund that primarily acquired portfolios of sub-performing loans, non-performing loans and deficiency judgments.
In 2020, NCP launched Northlight Real Estate Opportunity Fund III LP (“NREOFIII”), a blind-pool, commingled fund that acquired and originated first-lien loans and invested in bankruptcy assets.
In 2022, NCP launched Northlight Fund IV LP (“NFIV”), a blind-pool, commingled fund that plans to invest in loan acquisitions, opportunisitic lending and bankruptcy investments.
Additionally, NCP has provided co-investment opportunities to its limited partners and investors.
